描述: 

Windows Server 2003 是多用途的伺服器作業系統，能以集中或分散的方式，處理各種不同的伺服器角色。其中一些電腦執行的伺服器角色包括：

  • 檔案和列印伺服器。
  • Web 伺服器和 Web 應用程式服務。
  • 郵件伺服器。
  • 終端機伺服器。
  • 遠端存取/虛擬私人網路 (VPN) 伺服器。
  • 目錄服務、網域名稱系統 (DNS)、動態主機設定通訊協定 (DHCP) 伺服器和 Windows 網際網路命名服務 (WINS)。
  • 資料流媒體伺服器。 

Windows Server 2003 提供一應用程式平台，包括Project Server, Internet Security and Acceleration Server, Microsoft Operations Management Server，皆可單獨購買。

R2 版的功能包括：增加對內部與外部資源的管控；可擴充的、安全度提昇的網路平台；與UNIX作業系統相容；更有效的存放管理。

Service Pack 2 強化了安全昇級，增加支援Windows Vista ，在較大網路中分享資源時更輕鬆有效。

32位元與x64版：產品的安裝媒體包括 通用的CDS組合。

企業與標準版： 雖然各種大小組織皆可適用，標準版特別適合小型組織與工作組的日常需求。企業版提供支援對稱多重處理器 (SMP)以支援高效能伺服器、八個節點的伺服器叢集以及64GB的處理器。

Client Licenses: 使用者須有伺服器license。每個存取Server 的使用者或裝置都需要一個 CAL(Uer CAL 或 Device CAL)除了匿名的網路使用者之外，例如瀏覽組織公開網站者。或者，外部網路使用者眾多的組織可以使用Windows Server external connector license。此外，若伺服器執行Windows Terminal Services，每一位使用者或裝置使用服務時都須要單獨的Remote Desktop Services User CAL 或 Device CAL。
